Top 5 Day Trips to Take Outside of Mississauga
Published October 19, 2018 at 7:49 pm
There is something so special about fall.
Maybe it’s the crisp, cool weather that comes with it, all the seasonal food (yum!), vibrant colours both inside and outside, or maybe it’s all the activities and things that you can do while the season is here.
Okay, maybe it’s a mix of all the above.
Fall is a wonderful time to explore your city or town but sometimes it’s nice to venture out and explore somewhere new.
Here are five fall day trips you should take outside of Mississauga.
If a place that sells fresh apples and cider doesn’t scream fall I don’t know what will. Bennett’s Apples & Cider is a family owned business that first originated in 1910. Inside the store you’ll find a wide selection of baked goods, gourmet food, fresh produce, and, of course, apples and apple cider. In addition to all the incredible goodies Bennett’s offers, the store also has pumpkins. It’s truly a one-stop fall shop. Also when you stop by, make sure to check out the famous apple cider donuts.
4. Halloween Haunt at Canada’s Wonderland
Okay, this one breaks the rules a bit seeing as Halloween Haunt only runs at night but it is definitely a great trip to make outside of the Mississauga region. During Halloween Haunt, Canada’s Wonderland turns into your worst nightmares (in the best way possible). In addition to the thrilling rides, there will be monsters walking through the park looking for people to scare, and additional spooktacular activities to participate in.
Halloween Haunt runs from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. on select dates, until Oct. 31. This event is not recommended for children under 13. Tickets can be purchased at the park or on the website linked above.
Huron Natural Area, also known as Kitchener’s largest and most valuable natural space, is an incredible place for a day trip and suitable for the whole family. Here you’ll find one of Kitchener’s only cold-water streams (Strasburg Creek), provincially significant wetlands, forests, meadows, scenic hiking trails, boardwalks and lookout areas, natural history, and more. Huron Natural Area is located on Trillium Drive.

2. Fear Farm
Another Kitchener ‘day trip’ and another one that breaks the rules of not really being a day trip, but it is an incredible fall event. Fear Farm is known as being the biggest Halloween attraction in the Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge area. Those daring can go on five horrifying haunts on the 100-acre farm. Other things to check out while you’re there include the beer tent, the bakery, the potato patch poutinerie, the candy barn, and the double decker grill chessery were you can indulge in an incredible grilled cheese.
This event runs until Oct. 28. Tickets can be purchased online using the above link.
If you thought the farmer’s market season was over, you’re wrong because The Wincey Mills is home to a year-round farmer’s market in Paris. At this market you’ll find local vendors, a wide variety of food, including cheeses, meats, seafood, and produce, a comfortable café, and more. This Wincey Mills market is perfect for all food lovers while also being a great opportunity to explore what Paris has to offer.
The market is open from Thursdays to Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is incredible way to spend your weekend.
