Time for a little spring and summer cleaning in Mississauga

It’s often been said that it’s hard work to keep a big house clean.
What about keeping an entire city clean? Especially one the size of Mississauga, Canada’s sixth-largest city in terms of population and checking in area-wise at a pretty big 292 square kilometres.
That’s why City of Mississauga officials are encouraging residents to do their part in keeping this city’s parks and neighbourhoods tidy.
As part of Earth Day events (running April 13-23), and also a stand-alone initiative, Mississauga’s 20-Minute Makeover invites residents to form groups to clean up a park or roadway in their community between May 1 and June 30.
“Help green our city and volunteer for 20 minutes to pick up litter around your community,” is the City of Mississauga’s rallying cry for the annual event.
To participate, those interested must contact the City to get their 20-Minute Makeover kits.
Here’s how the initiative works:
- select the date of your choice during the months of May and June and organize a group of up to 20 individuals to clean up a park or a roadway in your community
- contact the City to register. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies (kits) last
- all groups that register will receive the following in the mail: garbage and recycling bags, gloves and a safety tip sheet
Earth Day in Canada and around the world is celebrated on April 22.
