The accidental purchase of an Encore ticket turned out to be a very lucky move for a Brampton father, winning a $100,000 lottery payout.

Parminder Sidhu is a business owner in Brampton who says he’ll play Lotto 6/49 from time to time. The 48-year-old father said his wife suggested buying a lottery ticket back in February because she said he “seemed lucky on that day.”

“I asked for a Lotto 6/49, and the cashier added Encore accidentally,” Sidhu said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings. “He was going to fix the error and get me a new ticket, but l decided to keep it.”

The decision paid off as Sidhu matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in the exact order in the Feb. 15 draw.

“I was counting all the zeros. I was really calm but so happy,” Sidhu said. “It felt like a gift. When I told my wife she said, ‘Yep, I was right. I knew you were lucky.’”

Sidhu said he plans to save his winnings and save for his son’s education, so he can graduate debt-free.

Encore offers 22 ways to win and can be played in conjunction with most lottery games for an extra $1.00 with a draw every day.

OLG supports safe play and wants to keep the fun in the game and promotes responsible gambling with our globally recognized PlaySmart program.

The winning ticket was purchased at Shell on Vaughan Valley Rd. in Vaughan.
