Spring-like temperatures are headed to southern Ontario this week bringing sunshine and warmth, but some turbulent weather could hit first.
Last week, the region saw a diverse range of weather. From foggy conditions, rain, and nightly frigid temperatures as low as -24 degrees Celsius, while daytime highs hit double digits of 10 C.
As of today (Feb. 25) there will be overcast skies for most of the day with 0 C temperatures. By the evening, temperatures will slightly drop to -1 C with a 40 per cent chance of rain.
Monday begins bright with sunshine and clear skies as temperatures climb to 7 C. Temperatures are set to cool toward the evening but will stay above freezing, settling around 2 C.
It’s going to be a mainly cloudy Tuesday with a 60 per cent possibility of thunderstorms, though the exact accumulation of rain is unknown. The good news is, temperatures will rise to 12 C making it the second warmest days of the week. Closer to the evening, temperatures are set to drop but will once again remain above freezing at 8 C — making it the warmest night of the week. However, overnight thunderstorms are also possible.
Environment Canada calls for yet another day of double digits on Wednesday. It will be a predominately cloudy day while temperatures will soar to 14 C which will be the warmest day of the week. Periods of rain are also expected throughout the day with temperatures swinging a dramatic 20 C in the evening, slipping to a bitter -6 C. Additionally, there is a 60 per cent chance of overnight rain or snow.
On Thursday, the last day of February, meteorologists predict a mix of sun and clouds alongside chilly conditions. Daytime temperatures are forecasted to peak at -1 C with a chance of afternoon flurries. As the evening approaches, temperatures will move even lower to -6 C.
With Friday on the horizon, temperatures will get warmer pushing to a high of 6 C. It will be mainly sunny with cloudy breaks throughout the day. By night, temperatures will fall to 1 C.
On Saturday, the weekend kicks off with sunshine as temperatures reach a pleasant high of 11 C. As the day progresses, the skies will get cloudy with temperatures cooling to a comfortable 4 C by the evening.
If you’re stepping out this week, you may not need to bundle up in winter gear every day, but having an umbrella or wearing a jacket with a hood can be wise to stay dry in case of rain.
