Thunderstorms and hail in the forecast for southern Ontario

There is a chance of thunderstorms and hail for parts of southern Ontario.

The unusually mild weather continues today (March 5) after many areas hit record-breaking high temperatures yesterday.

A record could be broken in Hamilton again and showers and thunderstorms are forecast for parts of southern Ontario, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Some thunderstorms may locally produce small hail, the weather forecaster noted.  

There is a mix of sun and cloud with 40 per cent chance of showers and a risk of thunderstorms beginning late this afternoon in Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton, Oakville and Burlington.

Highs of 16 C for the Mississauga area to 19 C in Hamilton are in the forecast.

The record high for Mississauga on March 5 was 18.5 C set in 2004.

In Hamilton, the record high for March 5 was 17.8 C also set in 2004.

The temperature is expected to drop to 3 C tonight with highs of around 6 C tomorrow.

Despite the temperature drop, it is still not seasonal weather. The average for this time of year is from around 2 C to -7 C.
