Parts of southern Ontario could experience severe thunderstorms today.

Recently, Environment Canada announced that it’s tracking a severe thunderstorm that could produce strong winds and heavy rain. As of now, regions where storm warnings are in effect include Barrie, Collingwood, Innisfil, Delhi, St. Thomas and other towns and cities in the area.

Thunder has also been reported in the Halton area.

According to Environment Canada, the severe thunderstorm is located near New Lowell, moving east at 50 km/h. Wind gusts of up to 90 km/h are possible.

“Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles,” the warning reads, adding that lightning kills and injures Canadians yearly.

Anyone outside in a thunderstorm is urged to find shelter.
