Three Brampton postal codes have over 20% COVID-19 positivity

Ten areas in Brampton are among those with the highest COVID-19 percent positivity rates (percentage of positive COVID-19 tests in the area) in Ontario.

Toronto-based research group ICES listed postal code areas in Ontario with the highest percent positivity rates for the week of April 25 to May 1.

Of the top 50 listed, 10 are in Brampton (compared to nine during the previous week):

L6R at 21.50% (area of Sandalwood Pkwy E and Torbram)
7th highest percent positivity area in Ontario (2nd highest during previous week)

L7A at 20.99% (area of Sandalwood Pkwy W and Chinguacousy)
8th highest percent positivity area in Ontario (6th during previous week)

L6P at 20.55% (area of The Gore and Castlemore)
9th highest percent positivity area in Ontario (3rd highest during previous week)

L6Y at 19.93% (area of Chinguacousy and Steeles Ave W)
12th highest percent positivity area in Ontario (7th during previous week)

L6T at 19.70% (area of Highway 407 and Airport Rd)
15th highest percent positivity area in Ontario (8th during previous week)

L6X at 19.01% (area of Williams Pkwy and James Potter Rd)
17th highest percent positivity area in Ontario (5th during previous week)

L6S at 17.72% (area of Williams Pkwy and Bramalea Rd)
28th highest percent positivity area in Ontario (15th during previous week)

For the same week, Mississauga had seven areas listed in the top 50.

For all Ontario residents, the overall percent positivity among those tested for COVID-19 during the week of April 25 was 8.6% (compared to 9.2% the previous week). Ontario has reached 40% overall vaccine coverage, up 6% from the previous week.

The same data for the week indicates that out of all of Ontario’s 34 public health units, Peel Region (Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon) still has the worst COVID-19 percent positivity by an increasingly wide margin.
