A threatening message sent over social media to an Ontario Catholic school has led to multiple charges laid against a 17-year-old, police say.
The incident happened on Wednesday shortly before 8 a.m. when the OPP says officers were called to St. Michael Catholic Secondary School in the Bolton area of Caledon.
A message on a social media platform threatened “the safety and well-being at a local high school,” a police spokesperson told INsauga.com.
No lockdown restrictions or hold-and-secure orders were issued but investigators say the Caledon OPP Major Crime Unit quickly identified the source of the message and a 17-year-old youth was arrested.
A 17-year-old, of Bolton, was charged with criminal harassment, uttering threats and mischief.
The identity of the accused cannot be released due to general provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The accused is scheduled to make a court appearance on Dec. 30 to answer to the charges, a police spokesperson confirmed.
Police say the incident is the second at a Caledon high school in as many months and follows gun trafficking charges laid against two Brampton teens related to a lockdown in November.
