This week’s weather: Warm and mostly rainy week for southern Ontario

Rain has returned to southern Ontario and is expected to persist for most of the week, with occasional sunny breaks.

Last week’s storm delivered record-breaking rain and flooding across Ontario, ending on a hot note with scorching temperatures over the weekend.

As of today, (July 21) the forecast predicts partly cloudy skies with a 30 per cent chance of rain in the evening, which could develop into an overnight thunderstorm. Temperatures will reach 27 C where it will remain for most of the day before falling to 15 C in the evening.

A little bit of sunshine and cloudy periods is anticipated for Monday. There is a 30 per cent possibility of afternoon rain changing into a thunderstorm. Daytime temperatures will hit 27 C but with the humidex reaching 32, it will feel significantly hotter.

The UV index will hit high at level 7. Environment Canada advises protecting your skin when the UV index is three or higher, particularly between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m

Additionally, Health Canada says that if outdoors, individuals should seek shade, wear protective clothing and hats, apply SPF 30 or higher sunscreen, avoid tanning, use UV-protective sunglasses, and stay hydrated throughout the day.

The skies will become cloudier in the evening as temperatures slip to 16 C. There is a low (30 per cent) chance that rain will return which could lead to an overnight thunderstorm.

Tuesday is going to be another sunny and cloudy day. Temperatures are expected to soar to 28 C, making it the hottest day of the week. There is a 30 per cent chance of rain at some point in the day, though the exact amount is unknown.

The skies will remain cloudy throughout the evening as temperatures drop nine degrees to 19 C.

It’s going to be predominantly cloudy on Wednesday, with scattered showers throughout the day. Temperatures will rise to 26 C during the day and dip to a cooler 18 C in the evening.

Overcast skies will carry through the evening and into Thursday, bringing with it peaks of sunshine as temperatures reach 25 C.  There is also a 30 per cent possibility for light rain. By the evening temperatures will reach a low of 16 C.

The rain and cloudy vibes will disappear on Friday and Saturday, bringing ample sunshine and clear skies for residents to enjoy!

Daytime highs will hit 27 C, while evening skies will stay clear as temperatures drop to 16 C.

The following week will bring some rainy days mixed with some sunny ones. Daytime highs are expected to shoot to 30 C, while nighttime temperatures will hover between 18 C and 22 C.
