This week’s weather: A mix of bright sunny days and rain headed to Ontario

It looks like cloudy and rainy days in southern Ontario will briefly pause as temperatures heat up, bringing plenty of sunshine this week!

Last week featured predominantly cloudy, rainy, and cooler conditions, with Environment Canada issuing a severe thunderstorm warning over the weekend. The storm brought winds up to 100 km/h, torrential rain, and hail.

Today (June 30), the weather is expected to be mainly cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of drizzle. It will be slightly breezy across the region, with wind speeds picking up to 40 km/h. Daytime temperatures will reach 22 C.

The skies will remain cloudy by evening and will clear around midnight. Brisk winds will return at 40 km/h and are anticipated to calm by midnight.

Canada Day Monday promises clear skies and plenty of sunshine, with temperatures climbing to 25 C, ensuring a perfect day for outdoor activities.

The UV index is expected to be very high at level 8. Environment Canada advises protecting your skin when the UV index is three or higher, particularly between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Additionally, Health Canada says that if outdoors, individuals should seek shade, wear protective clothing and hats, apply SPF 30 or higher sunscreen, avoid tanning, use UV-protective sunglasses, and stay hydrated throughout the day.

As night falls, residents will see clear conditions with temperatures dipping 13 C, marking the coolest night of the week.

Tuesday will bring a mix of sun and clouds, with temperatures peaking at 25 C for most of the day. By evening,  the skies will become gradually cloudy as temperatures cool to 17 C.

Wednesday is anticipated to be predominately cloudy, bringing with it a 40 per cent chance of rain. Temperatures will move up to 27 C before falling slightly to 19 C in the evening. There is also a 30 per cent chance that the rain will return and continue overnight.

Thursday and Friday look nearly identical. It will be a mainly cloudy day with sunny breaks. Daytime temperatures will sit between 26 C and 28 C. The cloudiness will stick around into the evening as temperatures shift to 17 C.

The weekend will start cloudy with occasional sunshine. Though there is a 30 per cent chance of rain, temperatures will remain warm at 26 C. Evening temperatures will drop to 19 C under cloudy skies, marking the warmest night of the week.

The second week of July is set to bring a few days of sunshine, rain, and cloudy days. Daytime temperatures will hover between 20 C and 29 C, but due to humidity, it will feel much hotter— somewhere around 35 C. Overnight, temperatures will hold steady at a comfortable 20 C throughout the week.
