This Is How You Can Find Out if Outdoor Skating Rinks Are Open or Closed in Brampton
Published December 7, 2018 at 9:11 pm
It’s already close to the middle of December, yet you may notice one thing that is missing as winter kicks into high gear.
No skating rinks open in Brampton, at least those ones that are outdoors.
According to city staff, whenever the skating rinks open is dependent on the weather, as temperatures need to remain below freezing for an extended period in order to make and maintain the ice.
You may have noticed that, despite a few days here and there of chilliness, weather in Brampton has been relatively nice and sunny in the last few weeks.
We did get the occasional periods of flurries, but overall winter has yet to really arrive at our doorsteps.
But if you’re an avid user of social media, you can also follow the City of Brampton on Twitter. They will always tweet if a rink is closed, due to weather conditions…or when a rink is finally open.
Here’s the regular schedule for skating in Brampton this winter:
Gage Park Outdoor Skating Trail (Main and Wellington) – NOW OPEN
Gage Park is pretty majestic as is, and it transforms into its own mini winter wonderland during the winter. A DJ spins tracks as you skate, there’s a fire pit where you can keep warm, and there’s a food trailer and skate and helmet rentals available from Thursday through Sunday.
Operating hours are Sunday to Thursday from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, Friday and Saturday from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm.
Chinguacousy Park Skate Trail (9050 Bramalea Road)This trail is designed in an irregular “canal” shape to ensure all skaters can practice their skills, regardless of ability. It has over 2,000 sq. metres of ice and can hold up to 500 skaters.
The rink’s status is currently listed as “CLOSED” but keep checking for updates when it finally reopens. When it does, the operating hours are Monday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm.
Mount Pleasant Outdoor Skating Rink (100 Commuter Drive)This skating rink doesn’t have skate rentals or change rooms, but there are benches around the rink for changing into and out of skates.
It’s also currently listed as ‘CLOSED’ by the city, but when it opens the hours are Sunday-Thursday from 10;00 am to 9:00 pm, Friday and Saturday from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm.
For parents and children, skating is on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Gore Meadows Community Centre (10150 The Gore Road)According to the city, the outdoor rink is scheduled to open in Winter 2018, weather permitting, but fees will apply.
