If you had filed your taxes electronically by March 15 of this year, you could be receiving this benefit cheque as early as next week.
On April 15, the Canadian government will issue the first of the quarterly Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR) payments, formerly known as the Climate Action Incentive Payment (CAIP). This initiative, meant to reflect its environmental goals more clearly, will benefit eligible residents of several provinces.
Individuals living in Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Saskatchewan are eligible for these payments, which vary by province and family situation, but are not income-dependent.
Here is a breakdown of the rebate amounts by province:

- $140 for an individual
- $70 for a spouse
- $35 per child
- Rural supplement of $28

Rural residents will benefit from a supplement that has increased to 20% of the base amount, up from 10%, pending Royal Assent.
Due to their independent pollution pricing systems, residents of British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Quebec, and Yukon are not eligible for the federal CCR payments.
According to the CRA, the CCR payments are adjusted annually based on carbon price changes to ensure they align with provincial revenues.
The rest of the quarterly payments will go out in July, October, and January 2025.
The CRA notes on its website that individuals who did not file their taxes electronically may receive their payments 6 to 8 weeks later.
