A man who police have called a “thirsty thief” was arrested twice within hours this week after reported alcohol thefts from a gas station.
Ontario Provincial Police said that at around 7 a.m. on Monday, officers from the OPP’s Upper Ottawa Valley detachment responded to a gas station in Rolphton, Ont. after a break-in was discovered.
“Entry had been made to the store and alcohol was stolen during the overnight hours,” OPP said.
A suspect was located at a nearby motel and taken into custody.
A 39-year-old Ottawa man was charged with break and enter and theft under $5,000.
He was released with a future court date — but was arrested again not long after, police said.
At around 10:15 a.m. the same morning, police were called back to the gas station “after it was reported that the accused had returned, and more alcohol was stolen,” OPP said.
The same individual was arrested again and charged with failing to comply with an undertaking and theft under $5,000.
He was held for a bail hearing, before being released a second time with a Nov. 18 court date.
