It’s been a pretty good week so far, to say the least, for Mississauga native and Hollywood action star Simu Liu.
Directly on the heels of learning that a sequel to this year’s smash hit Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, in which he played the lead role, was in the works, Liu took home a couple of People’s Choice awards on Tuesday night in Southern California.
Liu, 32, won for Best Action Movie Star of the Year and the Marvel Cinematic Universe film in which he starred took home Action Movie of the Year.
Twitter erupted shortly after with plenty of kudos for Liu, adoring fans and the Canadian actor himself also excited that he was seated next to Loki TV series star Tom Hiddleston, who won an award for Male TV Star of the Year.

On Monday, Liu learned that a sequel to the hit movie, which is the highest-grossing domestic release this year in the U.S. with $224.5 million pocketed, was being planned.
Worldwide, the film has grossed nearly $432 million to date.
Liu’s role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings marked the first time an Asian actor has led a cast in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.
Co-starring Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina and Tony Leung, the movie is also the first Marvel creation to feature a mostly Asian cast.
