A G4-level or strong geomagnetic storm is expected from Oct. 10 to 12, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Space Weather Prediction Center said.
The storm activity could produce aurora borealis, the Canadian Space Agency said.
“Auroras will likely be visible across Canada as night falls,” the space agency said on social media.
A geomagnetic storm is a major disturbance of Earth’s magnetosphere originating from solar wind.
These disturbances can produce spectacular northern lights.
There have been many chances to see the lights this summer and as recently as last weekend.
The forecast for Thursday night is clear in the GTA area offering a better chance to see the phenomena.
Aurora borealis can only be seen at night with the best chances after midnight and away from city lights.
The northern lights put on quite a show this week! @NOAA has issued a G4-level geomagnetic storm watch from October 10 to 12. Auroras will likely be visible across Canada as night falls.
