Texting trucker leads to charges for company north of Brampton

Texting in a snow storm has led to charges for a truck driver and company following a traffic stop north of Brampton, police say.

The OPP says the traffic stop happened on Thursday when officers from the Caledon detachment observed the driver of a commercial vehicle texting while driving.

When police pulled the vehicle over the driver said they were sending a message to say they were running behind

“I was letting them know I’d be late because of the weather,” police said of the excuse provided by the driver.

An investigation also revealed the vehicle had “no proper inspection,” police said.

Both the driver and the commercial vehicle company were charged in relation to the incident

“If it’s that important, pull off road to text (or) call,” police said on social media.

Police say anyone who sees an unsafe driver or suspects a driver of operating while impaired by drugs or alcohol is encouraged to call 911 and report it when safe to do so.
