A teenager is dead after a head-on crash in Ontario on New Year’s Eve.
Ontario Provincial Police said that emergency crews responded to a collision on Wellington Road 21 near 4th Line East in Centre Wellington Township, which is west of Guelph, just after 7 a.m. on Tuesday.
“Upon arrival, emergency services located the involved vehicles: a passenger car and minivan which had collided head-on,” police said.
The drivers, who were the only occupants in the vehicles, were taken to a local hospital, where one of them was pronounced dead, police said.
The deceased was an 18-year-old resident of Centre Wellington Township.
The second driver was later airlifted to a Hamilton hospital to be treated for injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening, police said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
