Taylor Swift ticket scams prompt warning from Peel police

Taylor Swift’s Toronto tour dates are just a couple of months away and Peel Regional Police are warning of fake tickets being sold.
Const. Tyler Bell-Morena said that officers are seeing some cases of fake tickets being sold online.
“I know how treacherous it can be to get your hands on these tickets, but I promise you that no one is swooping in on a white horse trying to sell you cheap T-Swizzle tickets,” Bell-Morena said.
“What’s often happening is people’s social media accounts are being hacked, the hackers then making a post trying to offload tickets for cheap.”
Bell-Morena said in the Greater Toronto Area, the scams primarily involve Swift’s November shows in Toronto.
“When you see these posts, I know how exciting it can be, but you need to calm down,” he said.
“More times than not, this is just a hoax and all you’ll end up doing is sending your hard-earned money and receiving sweet nothing in return, but a blank space where your money used to be.”
Bell-Morena said there are of course people selling legitimate tickets, but consumers should always do their homework and try to use reputable companies when buying resale tickets.
“Reach out to them via different means, via a different platform, and never ever send over your hard-earned money without proper verification first,” he said.
If someone has fallen victim to a scam, they should report it to police, he said.
Police in Ontario also previously warned of scams involving Taylor Swift tickets earlier this year.
