Police from both Hamilton and Halton Region are on the scene in Burlington due to reports of a suspicious package.
Dundas Street near Brant Street is now closed while Halton’s explosive unit is on the scene.
According to sources, police were called to the area just before noon today (Jan. 2).
“Something is going on but police are not quite sure with what they are dealing with,” according to the source. “This may take some time for them to figure out.”
Traffic is being diverted away from the area and the Dundas/Brant intersection is closed in all directions.
Halton police have released few official details but are asking people to avoid the area.
Police say an update will be provided to notify drivers when the intersection reopens.
UPDATE: Halton police said shortly before 5 p.m. that the intersection had reopened.
An investigation found the package was not dangerous, police said.
“Thanks to residents for their patience as police were investigating a suspicious package found in the roadway,” police said.
The intersection of Dundas and Brant Street in Burlington is closed in all directions for a police investigation.
