Suspicious package closes an Ontario highway for several hours

A “suspicious package” closed Highway 400 in Barrie, Ontario for several hours.
The incident started when police responded to a call for a disabled vehicle on Highway 400 northbound, south of Mapleview Drive on Thursday at 11:07 a.m., OPP said in a press release.
Officers identified “the potential of a suspicious package containing explosive materials” in the vehicle, police said.
Highway 400 northbound and southbound lanes between Innisfil Beach Road and Mapleview Drive were then closed for public safety.
The OPP Critical Incident Commander, Explosive Devices Unit, Canine Unit and Mobile Support Unit reponded.
No explosive materials were found in the vehicle and there is no risk to public safety, police said.
Police said no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
The driver, a 42-year-old woman from Hanmer, Ontario was transported to hospital for medical assessment.
The highway was closed for approximately three hours and reopened at 2:10 p.m.
