Police have charged a Brampton woman with an impaired driving charge after she was found with nearly four times the legal limit for alcohol in her system.

The arrest happened around 3:20 a.m. on Tuesday when police in Guelph got a call about a suspicious vehicle parking in front of a home.

Investigators with the Guelph Police Service say a female driver had parked within inches of the caller’s vehicle and had been idling her car for more than 10 minutes.

When police arrived they found a 25-year-old woman from Brampton in the driver’s seat of the suspicious vehicle. That’s when they noticed “a strong odour of alcohol” on the woman’s breath and found an open bottle of alcohol inside the car.

The woman then failed a roadside breath and was arrested with further testing revealing she had nearly four times the legal amount of alcohol in her system, police said.

Police arrested and charged the 25-year-old female driver from Brampton with one count of impaired operation. Her license was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days, police said.

The accused is scheduled to make a court appearance on Oct. 22.

Police are urging drivers not to get behind the wheel if they are going to consume alcohol or cannabis. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to call 911 when safe to do so.
