Suspected gunman shot dead in Hamilton after two killed in Mississauga, Milton

Hamilton police have confirmed that the man suspected of the fatal shootings in Mississauga and Milton has been killed after he was shot during his arrest.

Several police services launched a manhunt for a suspect this afternoon after two men were shot in a Mississauga Tim Hortons. One of the victims, later confirmed to be a Toronto Police officer, died on scene. The other remains in hospital. Police have not yet confirmed his condition.

The gunman fled from the scene in a black Jeep Cherokee. Later three more people were shot near an auto body shop in Milton. One of these victims succumbed to their injuries and the other two are in hospital.

Officers later tracked a suspect down in Hamilton. Halton officers came out and attempted to make an arrest. The suspect was shot during the arrest. The SIU, responsible for investigating police interactions that result in death or injury, announced they had invoked their mandate soon after.

However, there was not statement yet made about the suspect’s condition. Hamilton Police Chief Frank Bergen told reporters in a press conference near he “can confirm” one person had been shot and killed in the Hamilton Cemetery.

Bergen confirmed the shooting was connected to the Milton and Mississauga shootings and wished to reassure the public “there was no longer a risk.”
