Police are searching for a suspect linked to yesterday’s armed robbery at a CIBC bank in the City of Niagara Falls, where an unknown amount of money was stolen.

Niagara Regional Police say at 2 p.m., the suspect reportedly entered the bank at 6225 Huggins St., near Portage Road and Vine Street.

Subsequently, the suspect reportedly brandished a black handgun and demanded money, before making off with an unknown amount of cash.

Fortunately, no one inside the bank during the incident suffered physical injuries, police say.

Detectives have confirmed that their investigation led to the identification of the alleged suspect who still remains at large.

Stephane Smith —of no fixed address— is wanted for uttering threats and robbery using a firearm.

Investigators describe Smith as a heavyset white man, standing at 5-foot-8 and weighing approximately 230 pounds.

Police have not indicated Smith’s age at this time.

Smith is believed to be wearing a black coat, black pants, black rimmed glasses, a dark cross body bag and a flat cap hat.

Authorities say Smith was last known to be in the City of St. Catharines, though his current whereabouts are unclear.

Niagara police are advising residents and the public to avoid approaching Smith— if spotted— as he is believed to be armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Niagara Regional Police Service at 905-688-4111, option 3, ext.1007730.
