A hackathon event will encourage students to find solutions for climate change issues in Mississauga.

The City of Mississauga, in partnership with Go Open Data, host a student hackathon called The Sky’s the Limit: Innovative Rooftop Strategies for a Greener Planet on Nov. 26.

This one-day event challenges students to develop innovative solutions to climate change issues and challenges using technology. There will be cash prizes for individual participants and/or teams that finish in the top three places.

Students of all skill levels, from high school, college or university are welcome to participate. Those interested can register as individuals or teams of four to five people. All submissions will be judged, and a winner will be announced at the end of the event.

Students will have access to resources and support available through Open Data and Geographic Information System platforms. In addition, they will have the option to independently use tools such as Artificial Intelligence and data analytics to enhance their project.

Participants are encouraged to approach this challenge with creativity, passion, and a sense of responsibility.

The event is free but registration is required.

The event is on Tuesday, Nov. 26, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mississauga City Hall.
