Police say they’ve uncovered a “chop shop” following a suspicious fire in Milton.

Halton Regional Police said they were called to a fire at a large rural property on Number 20 Side Road, east of Sixth Line Nassagaweya, shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Investigators say the blaze was contained to a barn on the property, which was fully engulfed in flames when officers arrived.

Milton Fire Services was able to extinguish the fire, and no people were found at the site of the blaze.

Police say the fire is considered suspicious and has prompted a criminal investigation.

On Thursday, officers executed a search warrant at the property and located the dissembled parts of eight stolen vehicles. The vehicles were reported stolen from various GTA locations including Peel, Waterloo and Niagara. According to police, two vehicles from Quebec and Manitoba were also discovered.

“The property was being used to disassemble motor vehicles in a fashion commonly referred to as a chop shop,” police said in a news release.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to contact the 1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 ext. 2416.
