Stolen pickup truck leads K9 cop to accused thief from Brampton

Police officers and their four-legged coworker helped track down an alleged truck thief leading to charges for a man from Brampton.

The theft happened around noon on Sunday when the OPP says a pickup truck was stolen from a business on Murphy Road in Orillia.

Police say the truck was left unlocked and the thief fled the area in the vehicle.

Investigators patrolled the area and said the stolen truck was then spotted on Highway 11 and Line 15. When police arrived they found the suspect was gone and had left the truck abandoned.

Members of the OPP Central Region K9 team help police track the suspect and investigators say a 39-year-old man from Brampton was arrested.

The OPP says Gurpreet Singh Dhaliwal, 39, of Brampton, has been charged with one count each of theft of motor vehicle contrary and adult obstruct peace officer.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
