One person has been taken to hospital after a stolen luxury SUV that was fleeing from police crashed this morning in east Mississauga.
According to reports from the scene, a stolen Mercedes G Class SUV crashed after an interaction with Peel Regional Police officers at about 10:30 a.m. in the area of Havenwood Drive and Williamsport Drive, east of Dixie Road and just north of Bloor Street.
It’s not yet known if the injured person was inside the fleeing vehicle. The severity of their injuries is also unknown at this time.
It’s also unclear to what extent any Peel police vehicles may have been involved in the collision.
A witness on the scene reported that the black Mercedes SUV was speeding away from police when it crashed.
They added that police used a flash grenade or similar device in efforts to corral the vehicle and the person or people inside.
Multiple tactical unit police vehicles were also on scene, according to the witness.
A flash grenade, or stun grenade, is a less-lethal explosive device used to temporarily disorient a person’s senses.
Peel Regional Police have not yet responded to a request for comment from insauga.com, nor have they issued a news release or any report on social media surrounding the incident.
