A Mississauga man faces charges after a “suspicious” transaction at a casino in Niagara Falls.
The complicated case allegedly started in a Greater Toronto Area casino, OPP said in a press release today (Feb. 1).
A patron at the GTA casino reported someone stole cash from them, police said
It is alleged the culprit then took the cash to a casino in Niagara Falls where they proceeded to use the stolen funds on Jan. 19, police said.
Police didn’t name the casinos involved nor did they name the city in the GTA. There are casinos in Pickering, Ajax and Toronto. There are two casinos in Niagara Falls — Fallsview and Casino Niagara.
The OPP’s Investigation and Enforcement Bureau, which is embedded within the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, charged one person in connection with the investigation on Jan. 30.
Gurvinder Singh, 26, of Mississauga, was arrested and charged with laundering proceeds of crime, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and theft over $5,000, OPP said.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines on March 4.
Anyone with any information in relation to this investigation is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
