SIU probes Mississauga two-vehicle collision

An 18-year-old man was seriously injured after the car he was driving collided with a MiWay bus as he fled police early Monday morning in Mississauga’s east end.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit, which looks into incidents involving police and members of the public whenever a serious injury or death has occurred, is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

According to preliminary information from the SIU, the driver of what’s believed to be a stolen car fled from a Peel Regional Police cruiser after the officer tried to pull the vehicle over at about 4:30 a.m.

Moments later, the fleeing car collided with the MiWay transit bus at Burnhamthorpe Road and Dixie Road.

The SIU said in a news release early Monday afternoon that the man was taken to hospital “and treated for a serious injury.”

The intersection remains closed for the investigation.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.
