It has been over a month since a MiWay bus collided with vehicles on a busy Mississauga street, killing one person and sending eight to hospital.
Around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 8 at Rexwood and Derry Roads, a MiWay bus hit several vehicles injuring eight people and sadly killing one woman. Described as a “shining star,” a mentor and a woman with a big heart, Mississauga woman Sharron Williams died after the crash.
Dashcam video shows the bus not slowing or braking as it plowed into several cars including a taxi, before coming to a stop next to a flatbed truck.
The driver of the MiWay bus was one of the people injured and was sent to hospital. The driver was put on leave during the investigation.
Although people have speculated there should be video from inside the MiWay bus, officials aren’t revealing much about the investigation so far.
Peel Regional Police spokesperson Const. Donna Carlson tells insauga.com there are no updates on the investigation.
“As you can appreciate this is an in-depth investigation,” said Carlson in an email on July 11. “I have spoken to one of the investigators with regards to the incident, and at this point in time, they are continuing to look into all aspects of the matter and there is no additional information to provide.”
And the City of Mississauga also doesn’t have much to add.
The bus driver remains off work on an approved leave, a city spokesperson tells insauga.com. City staff is following up on an expected return to work but cannot share this information publicly, the spokesperson said.
The city continues to cooperate with the police investigation, the spokesperson added.
