Stiff penalties await those who use fireworks during the holidays in Brampton

Brampton sparklers fireworks ban

Christmas and New Year’s may be a cause for celebration, but if you live in Brampton, you will have to do so without fireworks.

The city plans to enforce a total ban on fireworks, with fines reaching as high as $100,000 for those who ignore the rules.

“Fireworks are prohibited in Brampton, You are not allowed to use, buy, sell, discharge, display or to be in possession of fireworks,” is the stern warning sent out by the City Of Brampton through various social media outlets today.

Sparklers are the only traditional type of fireworks that is allowed.

The ban was imposed following explosive Diwali celebrations in 2022, which saw more than 1,000 complaints filed to city hall.

The fines for failing to comply are as follows:

  • Discharge or in possession of fireworks without a permit: $500
  • Sell, distribute, display or offer for sale fireworks: $1,000
  • Permit, allow or cause to be set off fireworks on private property without a permit: $500
  • Fail to comply with an order: $1,000

The city may also, at its discretion, issue a summons requiring an individual to attend court, where fines could range from a minimum of $500 to a maximum of $100,000.

A public display of fireworks will be held on New Year’s Eve at Garden Square.
