Residents of southern Ontario are advised to brace for a winter storm, potentially leading to treacherous road conditions.
According to a weather advisory issued by Environment Canada today (Jan. 6) heavy snowfall is expected tonight.
The alert indicates potential hazards including five centimetres of snow with the likelihood of locally higher amounts.
“Snow is expected to develop this evening over much of the Greater Toronto Area and persist through the night,” the statement said.
There is also the potential for a band of heavier snow near Lake Ontario, but the exact placement and intensity of this band is uncertain.
Environment Canada warns that heavy snowfall raises concerns for slippery road conditions.
The regions part of the advisory include:
- Mississauga
- Toronto
- Brampton
- Burlington
- Oakville
- Milton
- Halton Hills
- Hamilton
- Durham Region
Environment Canada is closely monitoring the situation, and there is a possibility of issuing a winter weather travel advisory later today.
Residents are urged to stay informed by monitoring alerts and forecasts provided by Environment Canada.
