2024 was a busy year for retail in Mississauga, particularly for one popular outdoor shopping centre that saw a number of exciting new openings.
This past year, the city’s Heartland Town Centre welcomed a variety of popular new stores and restaurants into its ever-growing selection of retailers.
The new openings include major international clothing brands, gourmet dessert shops, an immersive gaming facility, and multiple well-known brands that opened their very first Mississauga location at Heartland.
Here was HTC’s 2024 Wrapped Up:
New retailers:
Major Japanese clothing brand UNIQLO opened a new 11,000 sq. ft store at Heartland this year, marking their very first roadside store in Canada. Known as one of the biggest clothing brands in the world, the store sells stylish and casual LifeWear made with premium materials for clothing that’s both comfortable and long-lasting.
The store also provides free hemming for pants $20 or above and complementary in-store pick-up for orders made from their online shop.
Popular menswear store Spier & Mackay brings their extensive selection of luxury suits, knitwear, sport coats, outwear, shoes and more to Heartland Town Centre.
The store was founded on the idea that great-fitting, high-quality men’s clothing shouldn’t break the bank, and aims to disrupt the market by providing exceptional value to customers at an affordable price.
Opened in early 2024, Specsavers is a one-stop shop for everything related to vision and eye care. The store helps shoppers improve their vision and find some of the best glasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses in a wide range of styles.
They also offer comprehensive eye exams including an OCT scan, which creates a detailed 3D image of your eye to help spot early signs of eye conditions like glaucoma.
For those who need to get a paint job done, look no further than Sherwin Williams, which offers innovative colour selection tools, exceptional paints and stains, and a wide selection of brand name painting supplies to both homeowners and professionals.
The Heartland store is the newest of over 100 stores in Canada, making Sherwin Williams one of the biggest one-stop paint shops in the country.
New restaurants:
One of Heartland’s biggest restaurant openings this year was Wingstop, a famous U.S. chicken wings chain that finally opened its first Mississauga location. They’re known for their savoury wings and wide variety of sauces, from the sweetness of Hawaiian to the tanginess of buffalo, and the spicy “atomic” hot sauce for those who want some extra kick to their wings.
Wings can be paired with their popular fresh-cut fries, available in multiple options including cheese fries, buffalo ranch fries, and loaded voodoo fries served with cheese sauce, ranch, and signature Cajun seasoning.
Opened in December as the final opening of the year in Heartland, Paris Baguette is a French-inspired bakery café with South Korean roots. Their unique menu consists of freshly made hand-crafted pastries, breads, cakes, Lavazza coffees, sandwiches, and salads.
Paris Baguette has become one of the biggest bakery franchises with thousands of locations across the world, including more than 180 in North America.
After a temporary closure, popular bakery Panera Bread has reopened in a new location with a brand new look. They also introduced a revamped menu that’s more akin to the bakery’s US locations, with a wide array of delicious pasties, bagels, brownies, cookies, croissants, muffins and scones, all freshly prepared daily.
In addition to their popular baked goods, Panera Bread offers tons of dine-in and takeout menu items including soups, salads, sandwiches, mac and cheese, coffee, espresso drinks, frozen drinks, fruit smoothies, iced drinks, lattes, lemonade and tea.
Chocolate lovers have a new place to get their craving with Chocolate & Love, a global organic chocolate brand hailing from Switzerland. Their premium café offers a cozy, inviting atmosphere to enjoy all kinds of chocolate confectionaries, including milk, dark, and vegan chocolate. Their numerous flavours include mint, orange, coffee, and sea salt & caramel.
The international brand aims to use only the highest quality cacao and ingredients when making their chocolate. They incorporate Fairtrade practices and environmentally friendly packaging, including FSC-certified paper and plastic-free inner wrappers.
New entertainment:
The new Activate location at Heartland Town Centre is a fully immersive experience where physical activity meets digital gaming. Inside the spacious, glow-in-the-dark facility, guests get into teams of two to five players and choose from a variety of games designed to test their physical and mental agility.
Some of Activate’s most popular games include digital dodgeball, digital hoops, indoor rock climbing where buttons act as rock holds, a game where players must carefully weave through lasers, and a “floor is lava” type game where players need to navigate through rooms with glowing tiles and strategically get to the end.
The facility tends to get busy, so guests are recommended to book their visit online ahead of time for guaranteed play.
Spanning 2,200,000 sq. ft around Mavis and Britannia, Heartland Town Center is home to over 300 top retailers and services and popular restaurants, making it the biggest shopping centre in Mississauga.
It was a good year for Heartland Town Centre, and many more exciting openings are slated for 2025! To keep up with the new store announcements, visit the centre’s website, Facebook and Instagram.
