Social media meet-up with girl in Brampton leads to sexual assault charges for Toronto man

A man faces multiple sexual assault charges after meeting a girl in person in Brampton this past summer, following conversations on social media.
Peel Regional Police reported that the incident happened on July 20 after a female victim met a man through a popular social media platform.
Officials have not disclosed the victim’s age or clarified whether she was a young teen or a minor. Investigators also did not specify which social media platform was used for the interactions.
The pair later arranged to meet near Bovaird Drive and Chinguacousy Road where the assault allegedly occurred inside a vehicle.
On Dec. 11, investigators from the Special Victims Unit arrested and charged Jamal Douglas, 21, of Toronto with sexual assault, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching.
Douglas is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Jan. 13, 2025.
