Snowfall preparations underway at Pearson Airport in Mississauga, Ontario

A blast of winter weather is expected today and Pearson Airport in Mississauga is getting ready.
Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory today (Feb. 15) with heavy snowfall and 70 km/h winds expected this afternoon.
The skies were clear and roads dry this morning but that is expected to change around noon with the majority of snow expected to fall in a couple of hours.
As of 8:30 a.m., operations at Pearson Airport were running smoothly but their specialists are keeping an eye on the forecast.
“Our hardworking team of airfield surface maintenance specialists are gearing up to keep runways clear for planes to depart and arrive,” Pearson said in a post.
The airfield surface maintenance specialists are prepared with 106 specialized pieces of snow removal equipment to keep runways clear, Pearson noted.
A video shows a behind-the-scenes look at the snow clearing operations from the last snowfall.
“Whether Mother Nature brings snow, sleet, rain, or frigid temperatures, make sure to check your flight status and give yourself lots of time to get to the airport,” the airport notes on X.
There are still winter storm warnings in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador, which could also impact flights to this part of Canada.
As always, it is a good idea to check your flight status before heading out.
