A significant winter storm is set to impact much of southern Ontario Monday.
It will bring snowfall accumulations of up to 15 cm, low visibility and hazardous travel conditions.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a winter weather travel advisory urging residents to prepare for challenging weather throughout the day.
Hazards:
Snowfall accumulations: five to 15 cm expected.
Visibility: Reduced in areas of heavier snow.
Travel conditions: Difficult due to snow-covered and icy roads.
Timing:
Start: This morning.
End: Tonight.
Snowfall will begin this morning, accompanied by low visibility and challenging travel conditions. A brief break in the snow may occur in the afternoon, with only a few centimetres expected from the initial round. However, a second, more intense snowfall is predicted to move in during the afternoon or early evening, bringing total accumulations of five to 15 cm by the time snow transitions to flurries late tonight. There is also a risk of freezing drizzle overnight.
Travel Advisory:
Motorists are urged to adjust travel plans and exercise caution on roads. Sudden weather changes could create hazardous conditions. Snow-covered surfaces, including highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots, may become slippery and difficult to navigate. Visibility may be severely reduced at times in heavy snow.
Affected Areas:
Toronto
Mississauga
Brampton
Halton Region
Durham Region
Hamilton
Niagara Region
Residents and travellers across these regions are urged to remain cautious and prepared for hazardous winter driving conditions throughout the day.
