Snow and -10 C temperatures will take over southern Ontario this week

Minus temperatures are making a comeback this week in southern Ontario, bringing along cloudy skies, snow and rain.


As of today (Dec. 15) residents will wake up to mainly cloudy skies, with rain and snow beginning in the morning and continuing into the afternoon. Wind speeds will reach up to 15 km/h, contributing to a chilly start to the day.

Morning wind chills will range from -7 C to -9 C before daytime highs climb above freezing to 2 C. By late afternoon, patchy freezing rain or freezing drizzle could develop, potentially creating hazardous travel conditions.

Cloudy skies will persist into the evening as periods of rain and snow continue. Temperatures will remain steady at around 2 C through the night, with fog patches developing around midnight and lingering into the morning.

Monday starts the week with cloudy skies. Morning fog patches will clear as southeast winds increase to 20 km/h, gusting to 40 km/h. A 40 per cent chance of drizzle is expected through the morning and early afternoon, transitioning to periods of rain by late afternoon. Daytime highs will reach 7 C—making it the warmest day out of the week.

Tuesday continues the cloudy trend with a chance of light rain. There is a 40 per cent chance of showers throughout the day, accompanied by a high of 4 C. Overnight, skies remain cloudy with temperatures dropping to 1 C.

Wednesday brings cooler conditions with a 30 per cent chance of flurries under cloudy skies and a daytime high of 4 C. By evening, skies will clear slightly as temperatures plunge to a low of -6 C.

Thursday offers a mix of sun and cloud but colder temperatures. Highs will only reach -3 C, while the night turns cloudy again with lows holding steady at -6 C.

According to Environment Canada, Friday sees an increased chance of flurries. Cloudy skies dominate, with a 60 per cent chance of flurries during the day and evening. Highs will reach -2 C, and lows will hover around -6 C overnight.

Saturday closes the week with a mix of sun and cloud and a 40 per cent chance of snow. Temperatures will remain cold, with daytime highs of -6 C and the evening lows slipping to -10 C.
