Some intense wintry weather is headed to parts of southern Ontario, causing hazardous commuting conditions on both Monday morning and evening.
According to Environment Canada, snow is expected to begin early Monday, followed by a brief break in the afternoon. Meteorologists say a few centimetres are predicted from this initial snowfall.
The following areas are part of the travel advisory:
- Mississauga
- Brampton
- Halton Hills
- Burlington
- Milton
- Oakville
- Pickering
- Ajax
- Whitby
- Oshawa
- Clarington
- Bowmanville
A more significant round of snow is anticipated to arrive Monday evening, with total snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm. The snow will taper off to flurries by Monday night, with a risk of freezing drizzle.
Drivers are advised to prepare for hazardous winter conditions and adjust their travel plans accordingly.
Surfaces including highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots, may become slippery and difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow, Environment Canada said on its website.
Individuals should take extra caution when walking or driving in affected areas. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
Residents are asked to continue monitoring alerts and forecasts from Environment Canada.
