Sleeping in stolen vehicle leads to charges for Brampton resident: police

Three people including a 26-year-old from Brampton have been charged after allegedly taking a snooze in a stolen vehicle.
On Thursday (Sept. 8), the Dufferin OPP say officers were called to a parking lot on Broadway in Orangeville around 9:45 a.m. after receiving a call about three people sleeping inside a parked vehicle.
Police say the caller was concerned for the health and wellness of the three individuals, but when officers located the vehicle the three individuals inside attempted to “mislead the officers by falsely identifying themselves.”
Officers treated the incident as a stolen vehicle investigation, and three people have been charged.
Karanbir Singh, 26, from Brampton has been charged with:
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Obstruct Peace Officer
Vikramjeet Singh, 23, from Georgetown has been charged with:
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Failure to comply with undertaking
Gurmeet Singh, 24, of no fixed address has been charged with:
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
The accused are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville in November.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
