A Mississauga man is facing drug trafficking and stolen vehicle charges after a traffic stop in Ontario ski country this past Friday.
Ontario Provincial Police seized a stolen car in addition to amounts of methamphetamine and opioids after pulling over an Acura TXT shortly after noon in Collingwood, some 55 kilometres northwest of Barrie.
Officers on patrol with the OPP’s Collingwood and Blue Mountains detachment initially pulled the vehicle over for traffic infractions, police said.
“Shortly thereafter, officers began a stolen motor vehicle investigation upon determining that the VIN (vehicle identification number) had been altered, effectively hiding the vehicle’s identity and the fact that it was stolen,” OPP said in a news release on Monday.
Joshua Nunez, 26, of Mississauga, is charged with:
- possession property obtained by crime over $5,000 (two counts)
- possession for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine)
- possession for the purpose of trafficking (opioid)
- operate a motor vehicle without insurance
- drive with window coated — view obstructed
- drive motor vehicle, no vehicle identification number
He’ll appear in Collingwood court at a future date.
