Six from Ajax, Whitby face 70 charges in major crack, cocaine and fentanyl drug bust

A combined 11 people, including six from Ajax and Whitby face a total of 104 charges in a major crack, cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine trafficking bust.
The OPP Central Region Community Street Crime Unit led the bust, dubbed Project Holcus, with support from the Barrie Police Service.
The two services kicked on the investigation in April following a string of fatal and non-fatal crack cocaine and fentanyl overdoses in Simcoe County since January.
Police conducted 11 search warrant raids in Ajax, Barrie, Springwater Township, Toronto, and Whitby on June 8.
Numerous police service and units worked in concert to execute the search warrants including; OPP Emergency Response Team, OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), OPP Canine Unit, BPS, Toronto Police Service, Durham Regional Police Service, Peterborough Police Service, Peel Regional Police Service, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and York Regional Police Service.
In total police seized;
- 509 grams of fentanyl (around 5,000 doses),
- 3,358 grams of cocaine,
- 33 grams of crack cocaine,
- 741 grams of methamphetamine,
- 347 grams of heroin,
- 1,446 unidentified prescription capsules,
- $81,460 Canadian money,
- a money counter,
- a drug cutting agent,
- a FBE 509 pistol,
- a Glock 43 pistol,
- a Glock 40 pistol,
- a Glock 19 pistol,
- 73 Rounds of 9mm ammunition,
- 42 Rounds of .40 caliber ammunition,
- a bulletproof vest,
- a 2015 Infiniti Q5S,
- a 2014 BMW B7X,
- a 2014 Jeep Cherokee,
- a 2017 Mercedes C45,
- 18 cell phones, and
- 8 Digital Scales
Six of the 11 people charged call Durham home. Four of them are from Whitby and two are from Ajax.
Daniel Robinson, 29 0f Whitby, faces 15 drug and gun charges including drug possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm.
Kourtney Lammie, 23 of Whitby, faces 23 drug and gun charges alongside two counts of failure to comply with a release order.
Kaprice Lammie, 26 of Whitby faces 11 gun and drug charges.
DeShawn Chin, 26 of Ajax faces 8 charges for guns and drugs and for failure to comply with a release order.
Nicholas Robinson, 30 of Ajax faces four drug trafficking charges.
Finally an unidentified 24-year-old from Whitby, listed as “Accused #10,” faces 10 drug and gun charges.
Five of the Durham residents remain in police custody to appear in court on June 14 and 15. Kaprice Lammie was released from custody and appeared in court on June 7.
Meanwhile Cameron Bedard from Toronto faces 9 charges; Toyin Gill, 25 of Etobicoke, faes 2 charges; Jeremy Kandhai, 27 of North York faces 3 charges and “Accused #11,” 22 of Barrie, faces 10 charges.
“Illicit drugs continue to pose a significant threat to community safety and wellbeing,” said the OPP. Anyone with information about drug trafficking can report it to the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
“As a law enforcement organization, the OPP’s role in the opioid crisis is to investigate opioid-related incidences with an acute focus on the apprehension of those who produce, import and traffic illegal drugs,” the OPP said, “Police are targeting organized crime groups responsible for distributing opioids and holding them accountable for trafficking these drugs that contribute to the opioid crisis in our province.”
