A Peel police officer has been cleared by Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit after a teenager was bitten by a dog during a chase in Brampton.

“The medical evidence determines the man did not suffer a serious injury,” said SIU director Tony Loparco.

“Accordingly, I have terminated this investigation.”

The incident took place on Aug. 25, 2017.

That’s when an officer went to a home in Brampton as a result of a traffic complaint.

While the officer attempted to detain someone, several others “began obstructing the officer from detaining the man,” reads the SIU news release.

The officer went back to his cruiser to call for backup.

Meanwhile, one of the individuals involved in the altercation with the officer fled.

A police dog tracked him and officers found the teen in a yard some blocks away.

The dog attacked the teen and bit him.

The teen was arrested and taken to hospital for treatment.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
