A section of a main road next to Pearson Airport in Mississauga has been shut down to traffic for the next two days as flooding has rendered it impassable, according to police.

Peel Regional Police said in a post to social media Convair Drive has been closed in both directions between Flightline Drive and Britannia Road East “due to significant flooding.”

Police tell motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Convair Drive runs east-west on the southern border of Pearson, parallel to Highway 401.

Earlier on Tuesday, Environment and Climate Change Canada issued several alerts and warnings for heavy and torrential rain across the GTA and southern Ontario.

Pearson Airport officials noted no other areas of the airport — or its operations — have been impacted.

“Today’s record-breaking rainfall has resulted in the flooding of some roadways surrounding the airport. As a result, Convair Drive is closed in both directions between Britannia Road East and Flightline Drive, and will remain closed for approximately two days to allow water to clear and then a roadway safety assessment to be done,” airport officials said in a post to X (formerly Twitter). “Our operations are not affected by the rainfall. We are seeing a good flow of aircraft departures and arrivals.”
