Eight Brampton libraries will reduce services, with one seeing reduced hours, amid a staffing shortage of library workers and a rising tide of COVID-19 cases driven by the Omicron variant.

Brampton Library announced the move yesterday saying they will continue to monitor and adjust services, “when necessary for the health, safety, and well-being of our customers and staff.”

The one library seeing reduced hours is the Mount Pleasant Village branch which will now be open;

  • Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m,
  • Tuesday and Thursday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m, and
  • Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m

Mount Pleasant Village, the only branch in the northwest corner of the city, will only be offering curbside pickup until further notice. The branch recently reopened after it was shuttered for two weeks following a possible COVID-19 exposure.

All other library branches will remain open for their regular hours, but will see a reduction in some services. The library’s Chromebook laptops and in-branch study spaces will be unavailable until otherwise announced.

Library services including library materials and online resources will remain available. Printing for two cents a page and an hour-long per day use of in-branch desktop computers will also still be available at a first-come-first-served basis.

Any other possible closures will be announced online Brampton Library’s website and social media accounts.
