UPDATE #1: In a recent video posted on social media, Constable Ty Bell-Morena of Peel Regional Police provided additional information regarding the victim of an afternoon shooting that took place at a Mississauga plaza.

The victim, identified as a 40-year-old man, suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital, where his injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

At this time, there is no confirmed information on a suspect, though Peel police have received varying reports, including one of a person fleeing in a vehicle and another of someone seen running from the scene on foot. It remains unclear whether these individuals were suspects or bystanders attempting to escape gunfire. Police believe the shooting may have been targeted.

“It’s too early to tell whether or not the victim that sustained that injuries was the intended target,” Bell-Morena said.

One person was sent to hospital with the severity of their injuries unknown after gunshots rang out at a plaza in Mississauga Saturday afternoon.

Peel Regional Police responded to reports of a person being shot shortly before 1 p.m., along the 1200 block of Eglinton Avenue East near Dixie Road.

Officials report that the suspects had left the area by the time officers arrived, though the exact number of people involved in the incident is unclear.

The victim’s identity, including whether they are male or female, along with age and place of residence, has not been released by police.

Authorities are advising the public to avoid the area while investigations continue.

In a recent video, police cruisers are seen parked along the streets with the plaza and parking lot area cordoned off by police tape.

Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
