UPDATE: Peel Regional Police Constable Richard Chin offered additional details on the Saturday morning shooting at a Brampton parking lot, where six people were inside a parked vehicle. The incident resulted in one death while three others were injured.

The vehicle, parked at a commercial plaza, had five women inside and a man in the driver’s seat when shots were fired at them from another vehicle.

It remains unclear whether the suspect vehicle was moving or stationary at the time of the shooting.

The combination of rounds fired and associated shrapnel (fragments or debris from bullets or nearby objects struck during the shooting), resulted in several injuries,” Const. Chin said.

One woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while another was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A man and another woman were later transported to hospital with minor injuries.

There will be an increased police presence in the area of the shooting as officers canvass local businesses for security footage. Authorities are urging anyone who was in the vicinity or has dashcam footage to contact homicide investigators at 905-453-2121, ext. 3205.

Peel Regional Police reported a shooting on social media just before 6 a.m. on Saturday, near the intersection of Rutherford Road South and Selby Road. The incident happened in an area surrounded by businesses, though police did not specify a particular location.

Investigators say one person was pronounced dead at the scene while two others were transported to hospital, one with serious injuries and the other with minor injuries.

The area around Rutherford Road, Glidden Road and Selby Road was closed for several hours as police conducted their investigation.

Police later reported a third person was taken to hospital, that person said to have sustained minor injuries.
