SHOOTING: Man in hospital after shots fired in Brampton; suspects flee

A man is in hospital with serious injuries following a shooting near a busy intersection in Brampton on Saturday afternoon.

Peel Regional Police said in a social media post that officers responded to reports of a shooting near Inder Heights Drive and Mayfield Road at around 2 p.m.

Police say a man suffered gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital, where he remains in serious condition.  Officials have not provided further information on the victim, including his age and place of residence.

Officers say the suspects are no longer believed to be in the area and a large police presence remains at the scene.

Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
