An overnight shooting has claimed the life of a man in Brampton.
Police responded to a report of gunshots in the Goreway Drive and Mayfield Road area at 11:31 p.m. Wednesday, Peel Regional Police said in a post on X.
One man died and another was rushed to hospital, police said. The second man was in stable condition on Thursday morning.
There was a large police presence in the residential area on Odeon Street, just west of Goreway Drive, as the killing was investigated.
In an update at 8:30 a.m., police said they believe the shooting was targeted.
Peel police Sgt. Jennifer Trimble told reporters investigators are aware of a video circulating online believed to show the shooting.
INsauga.com is choosing not to include the video due to its graphic content.
The video shows two men in a driveway clearing snow from a car. A white vehicle pulls up on the street, stops and a rear passenger door opens. Shots are fired, with the muzzle flashes clearly visible, and then two people get out of the car and walk towards the men in the driveway.
One of the approaching culprits fires numerous shots at close range at one of the men, the video shows, as the second victim appears to quickly run inside the home to safety.
The shooting occurred outside the home, Trimble confirmed.
Trimble said police are looking for a white, four-door sedan and one or more suspects.
“That’s all the information I have right now on suspects,” Trimble said.
Police are not yet releasing more information about the victims, such as names and ages, as they are waiting to notify family.
“We are concerned about the (injured) victim’s safety, of course, right now as well,” Trimble said.
A second shooting in Caledon may be linked to the fatal Brampton attack, the OPP says.
The shooting happened near a residence on Centreville Creek Road in Caledon, approximately 12.5 kilometres north of the fatal Brampton shooting.
A spokesperson with the OPP confirmed to INsauga.com that both shootings are believed to be linked.
