Safety Precautions
This type of severe weather can cause significant damage. Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, uproot trees, and create road hazards. Thunderstorms of this magnitude can also produce tornadoes. Lightning, which is also a risk, injures and kills Canadians every year, so it’s crucial to follow the rule: “When thunder roars, go indoors!”
Emergency Management Ontario advises taking cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when the atmosphere is conducive to storms that could bring one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, or torrential rainfall.
Stay safe and stay informed as this storm system moves through the area.
