Several busy roads in Mississauga will be closed for about 30 minutes this morning (Feb. 14) to allow the funeral procession for former mayor Hazel McCallion to make its way from City Hall to the Paramount Fine Foods Centre, where a state funeral is being held.
Peel Regional Police say the road closures will be in effect from about 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. The funeral begins at 11 a.m.
McCallion, who died on Jan. 29 after a short battle with cancer, would have turned 102 today.
Mississauga’s matriarch, who served as mayor for 36 years, was lying in state at City Hall since Sunday.
The following road closures are in effect this morning:
- Matheson Blvd. E., between Timberlea Blvd. and Kennedy Rd. S.
- area roadways around City Centre Dr. in Mississauga’s downtown core
Police advise motorists to use alternate routes and to expect delays for about 30 minutes.
Police add they will provide updates when the roads reopen.
